Attitude
Securing a permanent position in the job market today involves a great deal more effort than in past years. Strong computer skills, a college degree, and years of experience seem to be required before you are even granted an interview. However, one of the most important, and often forgotten, things to remember as you search for permanent work is the importance of a good attitude. It is a common, and logical, assumption that if you have a good attitude you will do a good job.
Employers interview frequently and are always on the lookout for people who are enthusiastic, ambitious and have a positive disposition. You can greatly enhance your chance of being asked back for a second interview, or eventually getting a job offer, by being genuinely curious, pleasant, and demonstrating a willingness to learn new things.
On-the-job attitude is as important as your ability. A college education and great experience are easy to ignore if you have a poor attitude. The cliché request for a "team player" comes out of a genuine understanding that people who are positive and ready to help one another usually produce better work. They also have the added benefit of being easier to work with. So remember, experience and skills may get you an interview, but often it is your attitude that lands you the job.
